Try, Try Again

Let's start with a poem:

Try Try Again
by T. H. Palmer

'Tis a lesson you should heed,
If at first you don't succeed,
Try, try again;
Then your courage should appear,
For if you will persevere,
You will conquer, never fear
Try, try again;
Once or twice, though you should fail,
If you would at last prevail,
Try, try again;
If we strive, 'tis no disgrace
Though we do not win the race;
What should you do in the case?
Try, try again;
If you find your task is hard,
Time will bring you your reward,
Try, try again;
All that other folks can do,
Why, with patience, should not you?
Only keep this rule in view:
Try, try again.

Ok, that being said. I have failed, bad. I didn't do what I said I would in my last blog post (which, holy crap, was a month ago). I have been to the gym MAYBE 3 times in August. I have however, try to do some walking after work. But my time lately seems to be working (two jobs), cleaning my house (so someone will so kindly buy it), and spending time with family/friends. Who has time for losing weight and being healthy with all that going on?

I am disappointed with myself. I was searching for uplifting quotes, poems, songs, etc today and found this poem. What a PERFECT title and perfect message. Try, try again... that's all we can do. We all have our moments in life when we do not do what we hoped we would, when we lose track of time, days, months...when we just point black fail. What's that saying - just need to jump back on the horse (or something like that).

I haven't been on a scale since I had gained the initial 6lbs from missing out on the gym most of July. Now, that I've missed out on all of August I'm really not looking forward to jumping on that scale again. I have a doctors appointment in November. When I was at my last appointment in October of 2012 I weighed 217lbs and that's when I decided to start my "zero to sixty" journey. While I doubt I'll be able to lose 20+lbs by November, I am going to try (and try and try again) to get to 170lbs (wherever I am now - probably 185lbs at this point). I know I have said this before, probably in my last post a month ago...do give up on me yet! I'm still trying...

To start my "try, try again" journey, after I go for a walk tonight I'm going to make this wicked yummy corn, tomato and avocado salad I found today on Ms. Paula Deen's page.

Oh you want the recipe?

Servings: 4-6 servings
Prep Time: 10 min
Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients:
1 pint cherry tomatoes halved
1 avocado, diced into 1/2 inch pieces
2 cup cooked corn, fresh or frozen
1/2 cup finely diced red onion

Dressing:
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1/2 teaspoon grated lime zest
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Directions
Combine the corn, avocado, tomatoes and onion.  In a large glass bowl, mix together the dressing ingredients in a glass bowl. Pour over the salad and toss gently to mix.
Voila!

I know that eating this salad and going for a walk tonight is NOT going to fix everything. But it is going to get me trying again. I need to start being harder on myself about failing each month and realizing that failure is NOT an option... but TRYING, trying is an option.

I'm off to try...
